As I fall into the darkness
My light fades away.
I get closer to her
And fall farther from you
I feel so empty.

A darkness grows inside of me
Consuming everything
A black hole,
A bottomless pit
That nothing seems to fill.

I throw her into the mix
Hoping to ease the pain,
And fill the holes in my heart.
But the darkness only expands.
Nothing can escape.

I feel my faith
Slipping through my grasp
Reality fads
Nothing matters
I see only shadows.

She can sense it.
Only she knows I am in pain.
And can see the darkness
But is powerless to stop it.
Her light is dead.

Masks are only temporary
My happiness sticks for but a moment
And fades away.
All things are consumed.

This time there is no mask;
What they see is who I am.
But they ignore the warning signs.
They are fooled by the short bursts
Of happiness.
And look the other way
When I am in the dark.

Can't they see?
I'm crying for help.
Can't she see I'm dying?
My spirit is weak,
My body weaker still.

The darkness has a voice,
And is laughing at me now.
As I attempt to fill the void
And keep my faith intact.

My lamp goes out
Its fuel spent.
Not even the words of the Book
Could keep it lit.
Nothing can escape
The darkness inside.

"You cannot save yourself."
Only you can fill the void
And light my lamp.
With you the darkness tries to hide.

You I shunned
And yet it is to you I turn.
The world has poisened me;
You have cured me.
With you I walk upright.
My lamp burns brightly.
Even when I cry.
Because you hold me
And whisper words of truth.

I listen to your voice
my bottomless pit is filled.
Only you sould set me free
My God.
"Your faith has healed you."
